03 May THE PROJECTS “THE MOBILE SCHOOL TRAVELS” & “TIME TO TALK” OF THE LADIES’ UNION OF DRAMA – HOUSE OF OPEN HOSPITALITY, AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL OF SAINT ATHANASIOS OF DRAMA
On Thursday, April 27, 2023, during the morning hours, the projects “The Mobile School Travels” & “TIME TO TALK” joined their voices and took place at the middle school of Saint Athanasios of Drama to hold educational experiential seminars.
The seminar was held following an invitation from the headmaster, in order to raise students’ awareness of Gender-Based Violence and School Bullying. 2nd grade students were informed about the issue of violence both by the Ladies’ Union team and by Ms. Sevasti Hatzifotiou, Professor of Social Work at the Democritus University of Thrace (DUT). Through experiential games, the students managed to acknowledge their personal space and set their personal limits. They also learned to discern when they are comfortable with someone coming into their personal space and when someone is violating it, so in this case they need to seek help. The students’ response was heartwarming, while the messages they left in the “TIME TO TALK” impression book reveal the need of people to communicate messages of hope, encouragement and love to women who are subjected to violence. Then they had the opportunity to discover the magical world of Mobile School by playing with the interactive educational panels and obtaining useful information on issues of equality and intra-school bullying.
This action of the Ladies’ Union – House of Open Hospitality (HOH) is organized in various schools of the Prefecture of Drama in order for more and more students and teachers to be informed, sensitized and mobilized in matters of gender-based violence and human rights.
The projects “The Mobile School Travels” and “TIME TO TALK” are implemented within the framework of the Active citizensfund program, with the implementing body of the Ladies’ Union of Drama – House of Open Hospitality (HOH). The Active citizens fund program, amounting to €13.5 million, is financed by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway and is part of the financial mechanism of the European Economic Area (EEA) for the period 2014 – 2021, known as EEA Grants.
