07 Mar “THE MOBILE SCHOOL TRAVELS” TO THE 8TH FESTIVAL AGAINST SCHOOL VIOLENCE
For the third year, the “Mobile School Travels” project team of the Ladies’ Union of Drama – House of Open Hospitality (HOH) participated in the 8th Anti-Bullying Festival on the occasion of the International Day against Violence and Bullying at School.
On Monday, March 6, a series of experiential activities took place at the Krachtidi stadium with the participation of students of the 1st Primary School of Drama. Specifically, thirty students of the 5th grade, together with their teachers, took part in the experiential games in order to raise awareness about school bullying, increase self-esteem and improve interpersonal skills. The students also had the opportunity to see up close and play with the various panels of the mobile school and also to learn about the “Mobile School Travels” project. At the end of the activities, each one of them received a souvenir sticker of the project.
The actions were implemented following an invitation from the headmaster of the 1st Primary School of Drama, Mr. Alkibiades Salpigtis. The action was initially scheduled for Friday, March 3, but was postponed to Monday, March 6, due to the three-day mourning for the deadly train crash in Tempi.
After three years of interventions only within Drama, the Mobile School from 2020 until today is taking place three times a week in areas of Drama, Kavala and Xanthi, in order to approach Roma children who either for social or family reasons are excluded from the school communities and cannot have a regular education. The project received a new nine-month extension until April 2024 starting in August 2023. One of the goals is to convince more Roma children in the Philippou camp to go to school and continue their education. For this reason, the project team carries out a “Social Tutoring” in the settlement of Philippou three times a week, helping the children to meet the demands of school lessons.
The project “The Mobile School Travels” is implemented within the framework of the Active citizensfund program, with the implementing body of the Ladies’ Union of Drama – House of Open Hospitality (ΗΟΗ). The Active citizens fund program, amounting to €13,5 million, is financed by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway and is part of the financial mechanism of the European Economic Area (EEA) for the period 2014 – 2021, known as EEA Grants. The program aims to strengthen and optimize the sustainability of civil society, as well to highlight its role in promoting democratic processes, strengthening citizens’ participation in society and defending human rights. The management of the grant of the Active citizens fund program for Greece has been undertaken jointly by the Bodosaki Foundation and the Solidarity Now. Read more here: www.activecitizensfund.gr
