PROJECT “THE MOBILE SCHOOL TRAVELS” OF THE LADIES’ UNION OF DRAMA – HOUSE OF OPEN HOSPITALITY: EDUCATIONAL ROBOTICS ACTIVITY AT THE PHILIPPOU CAMP

The “Mobile School Travels” project team of the Ladies’ Union of Drama – House of Open Hospitality (HOH) reserved a surprise for the Roma children of Philippou on Wednesday, June 29.
With the aim of giving equal opportunities and possibilities to Roma children, the institution carried out an educational robotics action. For the first time the Roma children experienced the concept of robotics and got their hands on a small robotic mouse. Specifically, the activity included robotics and mathematics so that children learn movements through programming and practice their mathematical thinking. At the end the participants played the “candy hunt”, with candy as a prize.
Maria Sarpota and @robot’s tutorial volunteered to carry out this action.
After three years of interventions only within Drama, the Mobile School from 2020 until today is taking place three times a week in areas of Drama, Kavala and Xanthi, in order to approach Roma children who either for social or family reasons are excluded from the school communities and cannot have a regular education.
The project “The Mobile School Travels” is implemented within the framework of the Active citizensfund program, with the implementing body of the Ladies’ Union of Drama – House of Open Hospitality (HOH). The Active citizens fund program, amounting to €13,5 million, is financed by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway and is part of the financial mechanism of the European Economic Area (EEA) for the period 2014 – 2021, known as EEA Grants. The program aims to strengthen and optimize the sustainability of civil society, as well to highlight its role in promoting democratic processes, strengthening citizens’ participation in society and defending human rights. The management of the grant of the Active citizens fund program for Greece has been undertaken jointly by the Bodosaki Foundation and the Solidarity Now. Read more here: www.activecitizensfund.gr
