13 Feb PLAYING AND LEARNING FROM “MOBILE SCHOOL TRAVELS” PROJECT FOR FIFTY-SEVEN 8TH PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENTS
On Friday, February 10, the project team “The Mobile School Travels” of the Ladies’ Union of Drama – House of Open Hospitality (HOH) visited the 8th Primary School of Drama.
Fifty-seven students of the 1st and 4th grades, together with their teachers, participated in the actions carried out with the aim of informing the children about healthy eating, food waste, recycling and reusing packaging. The students had the opportunity to see and play with the various panels of the mobile school, but also to learn about its purpose and goal, which is to approach Roma children who live and work on the streets. At the same time, they were informed about the operation of the 4th nationwide Food Bank of Drama. At the end of the activities, all the children received stickers of the project and printed information material as a souvenir. The action was implemented following an invitation from the Principal of the Primary School, Panagiota Gerakakis.
After three years of interventions only within Drama, the Mobile School from 2020 until today is taking place three times a week in areas of Drama, Kavala and Xanthi, in order to approach Roma children who either for social or family reasons are excluded from the school communities and cannot have a regular education.
The project “The Mobile School Travels” is implemented within the framework of the Active citizensfund program, with the implementing body of the Ladies’ Union of Drama – House of Open Hospitality (HOH). The Active citizens fund program, amounting to €13,5 million, is financed by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway and is part of the financial mechanism of the European Economic Area (EEA) for the period 2014 – 2021, known as EEA Grants.
