CATCHED THE EYES “THE MOBILE SCHOOL TRAVELS”

The attendance of children and adults in “Oniroupoli” and at the festive house of the Ladies’ Union of Drama – HOH was huge.
The project “The Mobile School Travels” captivated young people and seniors, while up to the last day more than 630 Roma and non-Roma children from all over Greece and the Balkans played for hours.
The project team “The Mobile School Travels” of the Ladies’ Union of Drama – House of Open Hospitality (HOH) and volunteers, enthusiastically participated every day in the great celebration of “Oniroupoli”. The children spent their time creatively and entertainingly, participating for free in activities such as: interactive games, mathematical games, spelling competitions, discussions on personal hygiene and proper nutrition, drawing, magnetic board games, etc. Parents showed great interest asking to know information about the project and its funding, while the children left with the best impressions and a souvenir sticker of the project! Many of them came two or three times since they “couldn’t get over it” as their parents told us!
Also teachers, professors from all over Greece as well as social workers who work in Roma camps asked to know more information about the results of the project, while they expressed their strong interest for the action to take place even for one day in their city.
After three years of interventions only within Drama, the Mobile School from 2020 until today is taking place three times a week in areas of Drama, Kavala and Xanthi, in order to approach Roma children who either for social or family reasons are excluded from the school communities and cannot have a regular education.
The project “The Mobile School Travels” is implemented within the framework of the Active citizensfund program, with the implementing body of the Ladies’ Union of Drama – House of Open Hospitality (HOH). The Active citizens fund program, amounting to €13,5 million, is financed by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway and is part of the financial mechanism of the European Economic Area (EEA) for the period 2014 – 2021, known as EEA Grants. The program aims to strengthen and optimize the sustainability of civil society, as well to highlight its role in promoting democratic processes, strengthening citizens’ participation in society and defending human rights. The management of the grant of the Active citizens fund program for Greece has been undertaken jointly by the Bodosaki Foundation and the Solidarity Now. Read more here: www.activecitizensfund.gr
